August always comes too fast. It sneaks in and is gone before we know it! It seems like not that long ago we were putting our focus on end of school and summer holidays, carefree leisure days. As August rolls around we start to shift our attention yet again with preparing for end of summer heading into fall. Seems like we are always constantly moving. Our constant companion is the rush to get on to the next thing. Perhaps the best thing we can do for our wellbeing is to take a pause, to slow down. When we slow down not only does it reduce stress but it can also boost our creativity which in turn helps our mental health.
Studies have shown that engaging in creative activities stimulates our brain, increases neuroplasticity and boosts our cognitive functioning. What can we do to be make use of our last lazy month of summer to boost our creativity?
- Challenge yourself to try new things. Check out our summer programs that might interest you;
- Listen to music. Einstein, listened to Mozart to get himself into his creative zone. He was fascinated by Mozart’s music stating “Mozart’s music is so pure and beautiful that I see it as a reflection of the inner beauty of the universe.”
- Clear your mind of distractions, do some meditation. A study found that after listening to a 20-minute guided meditation, participants experienced better brainstorming skills and higher creativity, even if they have never mediated before.
- Spend time in nature. Nature inspires, creates in us a sense of awe. The calming force of nature nurtures our ability to develop new ideas and consider different perspectives.
Whatever you end up exploring make sure to get out and make the most of this last month of summer holidays before September rolls around and we are all back to the hustle and bustle!
No better way to boost do that than to slow down and engage in creative activities to supercharge you!
