About Your Instructors

Mary-Ann Alberga is a mixed media visual artist and arts facilitator living and working in Burlington, Ontario. She is a lifelong learner and a graduate of both YorkU (BA English 1998) and OCADU (BFA Drawing & Painting 2001) in Toronto and has been a commissioned mixed media portrait painter since 2004.
In her visual arts practice, Mary-Ann is fascinated by the many beneficial and therapeutic aspects of visual art and craft making. She engages the processes of research and creation in many ways, including: reading, writing, drawing, painting, printmaking, woodworking, collage, assemblage and fibre arts.
Her current work is directly influenced by her experience with parenthood and focuses on the experience of wonder, mindfulness and learning through observation, exploration and play. She does so both in the solitude of the studio as well as out in the community often incorporating upcycled, recycled, found and foraged materials.
What to Expect
Foraging, Journalling and Sketching in Nature

Students will partake in foraging collecting leaves discussed and using them for art projects for their nature journal. This journal will be made on site by each student using specialty papers and nature-inspired elements. They will understand the importance of journaling and sketching and be guided on techniques and lessons on how to fill their journals with art, history, love and more!
Learn about the Land

Work your way through our nature trails and learn about the native species of weeds that are beneficial to our planet and health. We will also be learning about the history of the grounds from both indigenous and present day perspectives.
Nature as a source of Wellness & Mindfulness
