Nature & Spirit Program

5 Week Program

All trees tell a story, and everything in nature has a purpose for our well-being and survival. Let’s dive back into the past and learn these lost secrets and remember what Mother Nature wants us to know. Students will learn about all the different species and history behind trees plus these beautiful giants specifically planted at Joshua Creek.

What to Expect

Scavenger Hunting & Journalling

Students will partake in a scavenger hunt collecting leaves discussed and using them in an art project for their nature journal. This journal will be made on site by each student using specialty papers and nature-inspired elements. They will understand the importance of journaling and be guided on techniques and lessons on how to fill their journals with art, history, love and more!

Extended Care

According to Halton Region public health guidelines regarding learning cohorts, Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre cannot provide extended care for 2022. We thank you for your understanding.

All classes will be conducted in the Main Floor of the gallery, the porch of the gallery and primarily, outside in our Gardens. Drop-off will be outside of the Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre Gallery at 1086 Burnhamthorpe Rd East just off of William Halton Parkway.

Health and Safety

The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. To continue our mindful approach to helping reduce the spread of COVID-19 and keeping overall health, Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre programs meet health guidelines designed in consultation with the Town of Oakville and in alignment with provincial health guidelines for day camps. Guidelines include lower ratios and capacity, encouraging physical distancing and as much instruction outdoors as possible.

Class will consist of up to 14 students and one instructor working exclusively with the assigned group. Each child will be provided with a personal art kit which will be stored in the gallery space and not shared with other students.

During the program, art instructors will ensure that all students practice social distancing measures.

Students and staff may be required to wear face masks indoors if Halton Region public health guidelines state they must at the time of camp. Each learning space will be equipped with hand sanitation stations and a sink for thorough hand washing.

An email outlining all necessary information listed above will be sent to registrants prior to the program start date.

What to Bring

Students are required to bring lunches, snacks, and drinks for each day of camp (nut-free products only, please). Clothing and footwear that can endure both messy fun and outdoor play are encouraged. Smocks are not provided. As we aim to spend at least two hours outside everyday day, we highly recommend campers bring hats, sunscreen, and refillable water bottles. All art materials are supplied by Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre.
