Mindful HeART Summer Program

4 week program

July 3rd | July 10th | July 24th | July 31st

Ages 9 - 13 | $80

Join us for this 4 week program unleashing children’s artist within, exploring nature, and building self-esteem through our playful mindfulness programs.

We meet Mondays from 1:00PM to 3:00PM.

In these two hour sessions, students will learn and explore the benefits of creative thinking through art and nature.

Our philosophy at JCHAC is that everyone has an artist within and art is for everybody.

Throughout our 4 weeks together, students will develop:

  • A Sketchbook, which will serve as a way to document their creative and artistic journey.
  • Create art, uninhibited by our thinking mind and allow students to get in touch with who they are, what inspires them, and how to unleash their inner creativity.
And, a wide array of disciplines such as painting, sculpting, textiles, printmaking and so much more!
Buy 1 spot and get the second $100 off.
At checkout, enter promo code 2NDHALF to receive $100 off for your second child’s spot.
Children MUST be related.

About Your Instructor

Tatjana Reithofer is a multidisciplinary artist with a keen curiosity for crafts, visual language and culture. She graduated from OCAD U’s Sculpture & Installation program in 2020 and has since been developing her body of work. Tatjana’s practice deals with questions of cultural and ethnic identity and the tension of being disconnected from one’s own roots.
Her work consists of the use of found objects, personal ‘relics’ and the integration of these items with various forms of craft such as textiles, woodworking, ceramics and other mediums. To Tatjana, the medium she works with is dependant on the message she is trying to convey.
Having spent half of her life in Puebla, Mexico, Tatjana often felt that she never quite fit in with being of European descent, Canadian or Mexican. Yet these aspects of her identity pull at her and inform her experience. With this multicultural and international sensibility, Tatjana’s goal as an artist and arts facilitator is to help people explore their own nuances, their relationships to their roots and lived experience through art.

Extended Care

According to Halton Region public health guidelines regarding learning cohorts, Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre cannot provide extended care for 2023. We thank you for your understanding.

All classes will be conducted in the Main Floor of the gallery, the porch of the gallery and primarily, outside in our Gardens. Drop-off will be outside of the Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre Gallery at 1086 Burnhamthorpe Rd East just off of William Halton Parkway.

Health and Safety

The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. To continue our mindful approach to helping reduce the spread of COVID-19 and keeping overall health, Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre programs meet health guidelines designed in consultation with the Town of Oakville and in alignment with provincial health guidelines for day camps. Guidelines include lower ratios and capacity, encouraging physical distancing and as much instruction outdoors as possible.

Class will consist of up to 10 students and one instructor working exclusively with the assigned group.

We ask parents to also use their better judgement if they notice their child is showing symptoms of COVID-19 or other flu-like symptoms. In this scenario, we ask that children who are sick stay home.

During the program, art instructors will ensure that all students practice social distancing measures.

Students and staff may be required to wear face masks indoors if Halton Region public health guidelines state they must at the time of camp. The learning space will be equipped with hand sanitation stations and a sink for thorough hand washing.

An email outlining all necessary information listed above will be sent to registrants prior to the program start date.

What to Bring

Students will be provided with a sketchbook the first day of the program and all art materials will be provided. We only ask that student bring water and perhaps a snack as long it is nut-free.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation with a refund must be requested at least 14 days before your child’s program begins. There are no refunds for cancellations requested less than 14 days before the program begins.

Inclement Weather Policy

Class will run regardless of the weather, unless warnings issued by weather specialists state otherwise. Program content will be adjusted to the weather as necessary if working outside.

Missed Classes
