Watercolour printmaking is a unique and flexible technique of creating dynamic and exciting original artwork that is diverse as each individual artist.

The effect is created by painting watercolour on a “plate” or thin piece of plastic. When it is completely dry it is placed on “damp” print paper and put through a press. The paint is transferred to the paper and becomes “the print”. It is now a one-of-a-kind and cannot be duplicated!!!

At this stage, the artist may decide to add more colour, materials and other media to embellish and create further interest and interpretation of the vision. The effect is more textural and dimensional.

Sometimes, if there is enough paint remaining on the plate, a second print…or “ghost”…can be achieved. However, it is fainter and usually needs major work and additional media to create a completely different piece of work.

Joshua Creek Studio provides ongoing classes and workshops throughout the year to experiment with new ideas.

Children age 12 + are welcome (or confirm other ages with Mary by phone or e-mail).  This is a great opportunity to have a creative day with your children or grandchildren for fun and artistic expression!
