Pysanky Egg Painting Workshop

Pysanky (Egg Painting)

1-Day Workshop

Saturday, March 17th, 2018

9:30am – 3pm

In the Joshua Creek Studio

Wow your friends with your skills and beautiful creations! An experienced instructor will guide you through all the steps of transforming a plain egg into a work of art, whether you prefer simple or intricate designs.

Do you remember the magic Easter egg dying in your childhood? The kits of colour from dissolved tablets gave a pretty result every time. This workshop will up your game significantly… it gets so much better!

Pysanka is an art form for both hesitant and confident artists. Honestly, no eggs-perience is necessary, and you will be amazed how simple designs become elegant when stained with vibrant dyes onto a small egg. Although they look intricate, “writing” patterns on eggs is actually easy.

You will use a tool much like a pen, to stroke wax patterns onto the egg’s shell before dipping them briefly into pots of beautiful dye. It is the ancient technique of wax resist.

All the supplies will be waiting for you at this workshop.

You will learn:

• how to use wax-resist staining

• how to remove the wax when you are finished

• how to blow out the egg from the tiniest of holes

Afterwards you may choose to share your eggs as Easter or Christmas tree decorations. They also make great gifts in place of greeting cards especially for baby arrivals, weddings or retirements (sample of these will be shown)

And perhaps you will be launched into a new hobby that is both inexpensive and useful…and takes up very little space.

The cost is $30 at the door.

The workshop is 9:30 to 3:00 and we will have a potluck lunch together in the winter garden at Joshua Creek, so bring something to share.

More details will be forwarded to you after you have registered.

I am Sally Hortop and I have indulged in this art form for about 30 years. I’ve taught it to church groups with children as young at 6 and in middle schools in Mississauga, as well as holding workshops and demonstrations around the province. My daughter Claire will be with us also, so you will have plenty of support.

Space is Limited to 8 participants
