“Realism” – Two Points of View, Oil and Graphite. Featuring the work of Marsha Strycharz & Don MacMillan – August 20 to September 18, 2011
As a contemporary still life artist, Marsha paints in a classical realist style. Her work has been described as minimalist, modern, and photo-realistic. The real subject of her paintings is light and she focuses on cast shadows, reflections, and the impact of light on colour to define form and to create a sense of space and reality. Light is used to create mood and evoke emotion. She strives to achieve a result that is visually pleasing, emotionally calming and easy to live with.
Don MacMillan’s service with the Royal Canadian Navy contributed to his love affair with ships and the sea. His keen interest in drawing and the use of graphite as a medium of expression was the result of thirty-five years in the field of Architectural Design. He returned to the sea as a crew member of a restored steam tug spending time each summer steaming around Europe. With a passion for marine subject matter Don was elected to the Canadian Society of Marine Artists in 2006.
